Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Many of us had never touched a rugby ball before our first practice. Show up and we'll teach you the rest β how to pass, how to tackle, how to get tackled and get back up. Played before? Great, we'll find you a spot fast.
-
Fill out the form on our Play Rugby page and a captain will reach out with where to be and what to bring. Nobody pays to come try it out β come to a practice and see if it fits.
-
Nothing to come try it. Once you're in, dues are $450 a year, paid by season β $225 each, not all up front. That covers coaching, pitch time, league fees, and the memberships you need to play. And if money is the only thing between you and the pitch, talk to us. We have a sliding scale, and we'd rather flex the number than lose a player who wants to compete.
-
No. We're an LGBT club with the door held open β gay, bi, trans, nonbinary, straight allies, all of it. If you're here to play rugby and be decent to your teammates, you're in.
-
Two of them. Spring and summer we play in the International Gay Rugby league; fall and winter we play in the Empire Geographic Union. And we travel: NorAm (the North American IGR tournament) and the Bingham Cup (the international one) alternate years β Bingham Cup 2026 is in Australia, NorAm 2027 is in New Orleans.
-
Year-round. The current schedule is always on our Schedule page. New to us? Fill out the Play Rugby form or DM us on Instagram @gothamrugby and a captain will point you to the right session to start with.

Cleats if you have them (soccer or rugby β no toe stud), a mouthguard, water, and clothes you don't mind getting muddy. We'll handle the rest, including the ball.
